This magnificent story surrounds Don Miquel de Cervantes and his manservant as they are thrown into a dungeon and wait to be questioned by the Inquisitors during the Spanish Inquisition. A “poet of the theatre” by trade and tax collectors out of necessity, the two have been imprisoned for making an assessment against a monastery. In the prison Cervantes is put on trial by his fellow prisoners. In defense, he offers a play, portraying Don Quixote de LaMancha, the alter ego of Senor Alanzo Quijana, an aging gentleman whose brain has “dried up”. Quijana sees things not as they are, but as how they ought to be and becomes a knight-errant to set the world right. Cervantes invites the fellow prisoners to take part in the tale and slowly they begin to believe in his “Impossible Dream” (the best known of the show’s marvelous songs.)

Season Tickets Now On Sale - WE NEED YOUR HELP!
2nd Star Productions is facing a major challenge. With our financial cushion nearly gone, we offer the following proposed season with the condition that we must sell enough season tickets to cover the basic expenses for the productions.

September - Neil Simon comedy "The Dinner Party"
November - Holiday musical TBA
March - "On Golden Pond"
June - "Fiddler on the Roof"

We need to sell 500 season subscriptions to offer all shows as scheduled. You can be part of the solution. If you are a current season ticket holder, please renew your subscription as soon as possible and recruit a new subscriber or two to come with you! Join the groups of families and friends who use their season tickets as a reason to get together during the year. And remember, without your commitment to us we will not be able to offer a season.  I'ts up to you!  Support Live Theatre!!!!

Season Ticket Orders will be accepted from now through July 1, 2009.  DEADLINE EXTENDED!

If, on July 1, we feel that it is financially viable to offer the season, we will process orders and let you know; if not we will cancel the orders and return any payment that has been sent.

To order Season Tickets, please click the button for a printable Ticket Request Form.

Mail ticket requests to 1106 Skyway Drive, Annapolis, MD 21409. You may enclose payment now, which we will hold until the July 1 decision is made or you may commit now and we will contact you for payment after July 1.

PLEASE SEND ALL RESPONSES TO JANE DIRECTLY at jbw-2ndstar@excite.com

2nd Star Productions announces auditions for our Fall 2009 comedy,
“The Dinner Party” by Neil Simon.   Auditions will be held:
Saturday June 20 at 12 PM
and Sunday June 21 at 6 PM.

Directed by Charles W. Maloney, “The Dinner Party” will be performed weekends
September 4 through September 19, 2009.

A serious comedy from the master of American comedy. Six people (three men and three women) are individually invited to dinner in a fancy French restaurant by a mutual friend. They do not know who the other guests will be, or even why they have been invited. Turns out that each of the three couples are divorced (one couple twice), and the person who invited them (never appears) thinks they should have a chance at reconciliation. Some wonderfully funny lines, as you always expect from Neil Simon, but some serious, meaty confrontation that you seldom see, and a few Broadway critics were divided over.   Rich characters for experienced actors.   Age range: late 30s to maybe early 60s depending on who looks good with who (whom?).  Rehearsals begin in late June, Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and some Saturday mornings.

All auditions and performances will be held at the newly renovated Bowie Playhouse in Whitemarsh Park, just off southbound route 3 in Bowie, MD.  Bring a resume and head shot if you have them. (If you have been in a recent 2nd Star production, resume and head shot are optional unless you want to update your file). Bring a list of your scheduled commitments for 2009, as we will ask for rehearsal/performance conflicts. Auditions begin very promptly!  Call 410-757-5700 or 301-832-4819 for more information.
