2nd Star Wins Ruby Griffith Award!
In 1969 the British Embassy Players established the Ruby Griffith Awards for outstanding achievement in theatrical productions in Washington, DC and surrounding areas.
On July 12th, 2nd Star Productions was awarded the 2008-2009 Ruby Griffith Award for
Outstanding Achievement in a Musical for  “Man of La Mancha”.  This year approximately 30 theatre companies were considered, twelve of those for musicals. This the third Ruby Griffith for 2nd Star, the former being Outstanding Achievement for Mame in 2004 and 2nd runner up in 2002 for Guys and Dolls. After 3 years, 2nd Star has a contract for the beloved musical set in Tsarist Russia in 1905. The story centers on Tevye, the father of five daughters, and his attempts to maintain his family and religious traditions while outside influences encroach upon their lives. He must cope with both the strong-willed actions of his three older daughters—each one's choice of husband moves further away from the customs of her faith—and with the edict of the Tsar that evicts the Jews from their village.

The Lion in Winter
By James Goldman
Directed by Charles W. Maloney
at Bowie Playhouse, February 24 - March 10, 2012

Thanks to everyone for a fantastic show!

The Lion in Winter is the unusual love story of King Henry II
of England, played by the Rennfest’s Henry VIII, Fred Nelson
and Eleanor of Aquataine, Heather Tuckfield (Fred’s costar
from last year’s Be My Baby) as they parry for power and to
have their favorite son inherit the throne.  Richard,
eventually Richard the Lionhearted, is played by Dean
Davis.  Middle brother  Geoffrey is portrayed by Jimmy Heyworth.  The youngest, John, who also eventually ascends the throne is Zak Zeeks.  Adding to the regal maneuvering is King Philip II of France, played by Mark Allen Stephens and his sister Alais, Tanya Davis.  Also enriching the cast are Marty Hayes, Malarie Novotny, Ian Shantz and introducing Ben Abbott.
